Centrolepis sp.

The name is made from two Greek words, kentron meanting spur and lepis which means a scale, and this refers to the points of the bracts in Centrolepis fascicularis.

These are small plants, and there are about 24 species, with 19 in Australia. We have three species in our parks. Centrolepis, however are not on the plant list for Horsnell Gully Conservation Park.

Centrolepis aristata: pointed centrolepis.

Aristata means bearning bristles.

A small annual herb 2 to 10 cm tall, bright green, turning reddish after flowering.

Centrolepis polygyna: wiry centrolepis. A small annual herb 1.5 to 6 cm tall, dull green, turning reddish brown after flowering. Flowering tiime July to November

Centrolepis strigosa: hairy centrolepis.

Strigosa also means bearing bristles.

A small annual herb 2 to 7 cm tall, bright green, wiith distinctive hairy flowers. Flowering tiime September to November
